At night, sometimes I find it hard to settle down! I know I ought to put my digital tools down at least an hour before bed but that almost NEVER happens. To cure this, I really enjoy listening to Jason Stephenson’s youtube channel. He posts soothing songs and some guided meditation! I don’t actually remember what the guided meditation is about because I always fall asleep quickly!
I recently took a calligraphy class and now I seem to have picked up a new hobby! At the moment, I’m just practising. I’m finding this a really relaxing activity. Even if what I’m writing is complete nonsense, there is something satisfying about seeing beautiful handwriting.
Learning new things! I am learning how to do calligraphy ! I'm finding it really relaxing!!! This is a practice sheet! Ten points if you know what I'm scribbling about!! #calligraphy #handlettering #moderncalligraphy #lettering #brushlettering #art #calligraphyph #typegang #typography #handwriting #goodtype #brushcalligraphy #handtype #typespire #thedailytype #handlettered #calligrafriends #calligraphypractice #brushpen #script #letteringart #handwritten #handmade #calligritype #calligraphylove #calligraphyart
One of my goals (which is one that is forever on repeat because I never do it) is to be more creative. So I’m glad that I seem to be keeping busy with some new creative activities.
I’m really getting into binge watching random shows on Netflix! It’s been a while since I’ve watched US shows. The one I’ve only just got into is called ’13 Reasons Why’, which is a mysterious drama centred around the suicide of a girl called Hannah.
If you’re familiar with the game ‘Life is Strange’, it has a very similar quiet and dark feel to it.
Aside from an addictive and intriguing story, I’m so happy at the seamless diversity of the cast. It’s definitely the way forward. I’ve been going on about it on twitter but I really can’t get over it!
It’s not often I see Asian characters being portrayed as ‘normal everyday people’. Usually, if there is an Asian character, they are there is represent, more often than not, a stereotype *coughslookingatyouGLEE*. In 13 Reasons Why, you have them acting as popular kids, not the nerds. They are there as parents and teachers, multi-faceted complex characters, acting as important cogs to the storyline.
It’s not just Asians that are being represented! I’m only harping on about it because it’s something I’ve been wanting to see for a long time. Representation is SO important and due to the lack of it, it was one of the reasons I had turned to consuming Asian media.
Ok granted, they’re not playing the leads in 13 Reasons Why, but it’s a really good step in the right direction! There is lately so much uproar (and rightly so) about whitewashing in Hollywood. It’s not over but I feel it’s a really interesting and pivotal time for Asians in the media right now. This is a topic I really care about! So I hope to come back to reviewing other shows with diversity if I spot them!
