On the Box: Fated to Love You Korean version
Fated to Love You Korean version Review
Can I just say OH MY GOD! New drama, Fated to Love You Korean version is fan-bloody-tastic. It’s got to be somewhere in my top ten favourite dramas EVER! I know it hasn’t even finished airing in Korea but there’s everything you could ever want in a drama!
What do you mean you haven’t seen it yet? Ok I’ll break it down for you.
It’s based on the Taiwanese drama also of the same name, yes that would also be Fated to Love You. The story of a girl and guy who have a one night stand! The girl gets pregnant….
This is Lee Gun (played by Jang Hyuk). He’s rich. He’s crazy. He’s ridiculous! Everything about him is dramatic. His hair, his suits and….his epic laugh!
Meet Kim Mi Young! She’s your shy and quiet plain Jane, the ‘YES’ girl in every way! She can’t stand turning down people if they ask her for a request. She’s too darn nice!
Well as you know, as divined by the Korean God of drama (or is it fate?), the two meet! It’s not your typical meeting though. They have a one night stand! It’s very scandalous you know!
On top of that – Mi Young falls pregnant!
So Lee Gun steps up and marries her!
Then as with everything in Korean dramas……they draw up a contract. Contracts makes everything fun and dramatic in KDRAMAS!
And then you need to complicate a bit further with your usual subplots because a kdrama is not complete without FEELINGS and a LOVE SQUARE!
At this point, I don’t really know what they’re doing with this handsome guy. He’s called Daniel Pitt. Yes….Pitt. He’s adopted. He’s rich. He owns a cafe, he’s an artist…..maybe a collector. Who knows!
There are other characters like the Grandma, the mother, the meddling annoying people…it’s all good!
My Verdict: I really love this drama!
I have not laughed so hard in ages! There’s one scene where I literally choked on my drink because the scenarios were so ridiculous. But it’s not just a laughter fest! I’m often genuinely moved by the acting and how they portray the tender relationships between families. I have actually gone from crying with sadness to laughing in the space of 5 seconds! That’s how amazing this drama is.
For the romantics, it is a swoon fest as well!
I have to give props to the people responsible for the soundtrack. It’s amazing and used so well! Sometimes as a plot device and sometimes for humour.
I think Lee Gun is such a brilliant character. He’s as mad as brush but he’s a true gentleman in every way (well most of the time). Jang Nara is also just perfect as always!
The chemistry between the two leads is believable and enjoyable to watch! I would say if you enjoy watching a Mr Rochester/Jane Eyre type of dynamic, good girl meets loveable pompous windbag (I jest!) then this is the drama for you!
EDITED TO ADD: Well the first ten episodes are fantastic. I’ve hit episode 11 and I’m just a bit frustrated now! lol. Let’s see how it plays out.
