K LIVE Hologram Concert Sentosa
Now you may be wondering why I’d go to see K LIVE in Singapore when I was heading out to Seoul the next day. Well, if I think about it, I’d rather see the ‘real life’ in Seoul. It’s not that I don’t like Singapore (I love the little red dot). It’s just that I’ve seen a lot of it already and I had some time to kill!
How to get to K Live Sentosa
Singapore is a such an easy country to travel around it. Taxi cabs are not too expensive! However, since I was on a nostalgia trip, I took the MRT which is their version of the tube!
You need to go to Harbourfront MRT. This will take you directly to the Vivocity shopping mall. From there you can catch the Sentosa express monorail. This will transport you from the main island to Sentosa!
Once you’re at Sentosa, you need to get off at the Resorts World stop. This is the very first stop!
There’s a lot of places to eat and you’ll walk past a lot of other attractions like Universal Studios. Ignore that if you can!
It took me a while to find K Live Sentosa. My tip is to head to the Korea food court town. The entrance looks like this.
Walk past that and follow the street around it and then you’ll find the K LIVE Sentosa right next to it. This is what the entrance looks like.
I got there in time for a 2 o’clock showing! There I was let into a side room where you can look at merchandise and take a silly photo.
I thought I would have been let in straight away but they were setting up. I was then surprised to find out that I was the only one attending the show!?!!?!?! So yeah, UM awkward solo……partay?
What is a hologram concert like?
Inside, you can see a raised stage, very much like you’d see at a concert. Luckily two more people came in late to watch. So there were 3 people ready for *whispers* JYP nation.
It started with a Krump dance and I honestly couldn’t tell if they were real or not. I was trying to find a flaw somewhere. They really look real.
The only giveaway is that sometimes they won’t be in focus (normally it’s just one person, not the entire group) and their outline can be a little fuzzed. But most of time it really was like watching them LIVE. You can see the bounce of the hair and everything!
2pm opened up the show. I don’t know any 2pm songs. I think I spent most of the time marvelling at the technology. My main conclusion from the performance – Taecyeon is super handsome.
They were followed by the Wonder Girls. I was really disappointed that they only performed one song, but thankfully, I got to see them live at Mnet Countdown the next week.
I was looking forward to Got7 because I have absolutely no idea what they’re like as band. They seemed really light on their feet. I think probably due to the fact we can’t hear their footsteps! Anyway, GOT7 were really good and I will definitely attend a GOT7 concert if it ever arises.
K Live tries to recreate the atmosphere of a concert with lights and even falling foam. However, I think it would have been better if the show had been completely packed with people so that you get the buzz of a concert. Perhaps they have to reduce their showings or keep them in the evenings.
After the show, I was given a questionnaire and a Got7 poster for my troubles! I guess they’re looking for ways to improve it and want to gauge what kind of interest people have in it. If they are ever lost for ideas on how to promote it….I think it would be such an amazing opportunity to prank fans and post it as a viral video!
K Live Sentosa is definitely worth going if you can’t get yourself to a real concert. It’s a feast for the eyes (and I’m not talking about the pretty people). Literally, the designers can create things that would simply be impossible to do in a regular ‘2d’ show.
I’m wondering where entertainment is going to go next! Could we be seeing immersive hologram movies like this? I really hope so.
I think I would really love to see a Bigbang hologram concert. Still bitter that MADE never made it to Europe! What hologram concert would you attend?
