Kcon France Concert 2016 Review
I can’t tell you how long I’ve been itching to go to a Kpop concert. Going to concerts has to be one of my favourite things to do ever. It’s like a party atmosphere that I can participate in without the need to get drunk! When the Kcon France concert was announced, I knew I had to get my butt into gear so that I could make it. Luckily there was time in my schedule before I had to go back to work, so everything worked out perfectly.
The stress of getting tickets was insane so I went for a balcony seat (they were the only ones left!)
It was much cheaper than a typical Kpop concert in London so I had nothing to loose.
I have to say there was very little information on the internet about what was actually going to happen at KCON France. I’m glad I joined up with a facebook group because there was a lot more useful info being shared there.
I also found out there were tickets available in ALL CATERGORIES. I don’t know what the reason was but a day before the concert, I decided I needed a great view and bought a category 1 ticket so I could have an even more amazing experience!!! Luckily I sold off my spare ticket so I had a little bit more money for tasty French pastries! 😀
I noticed whilst walking around Paris that there is some kind of love affair happening between Korea and Paris! I walked past a hotel which was flying the Korean flag, there were metro posters plastered with ‘visit Korea’. A lot of tourist vendors were ‘anneonghaeseyo-ing’ me. I normally get konnichwa’d or ni hoa’d so this is a new thing. I’m guessing Paris is a very popular destination for Koreans to visit!
I woke up early and had a browse of the Kcon France Concert facebook group, I found out people were already queuing for the convention and concert! It wasn’t looking likely that everyone was going to fit inside for the 1st and 2nd session of the convention as apparently only 500 people could fit inside at a time.
I decided I can live without queuing and seeing the idols Q&A. I’d honestly rather see more of Paris. So I ditched the convention and went to see the Mona Lisa at the Louvre with my friend (SO BEAUTIFUL)! I’m very glad I went in the end, because the next day the Louvre was closed because of all the flooding!
Zip forward to concert time, I must have arrived about 45 minutes before the show. The queue was very long to get in! I would have loved to have bought the Kcon lightstick and see what things the fanclubs were distributing but I didn’t have much time to do anything once inside the arena apart from go to the toilet and accept a Too Cool For School sheet mask on the way in.
Too Cool For School were the sponsors of the show and apparently it is being sold in Galleries Lafayette. If you take your Kcon ticket there you can get 20% off!
The seating arrangement is quite confusing as the higher numbers are infact the ones that are closer to the stage! I was sitting near the bridge. So I had a really great view of all the stages from my seat. This is it!
Kcon France – The Show
The Kcon France concert opened up with BTS, they performed Arirang! And then everyone came out together to say hi! There was a seriously long line up.
Leeteuk was the main MC and he did a great job. I would love to see him perform as part of Super Junior (he was still in the army when I saw Super Show 5).
Leeteuk announced that the president of South Korea had come! She waved to the crowd and took her seat. She was surrounded by a lot of other people in suits. I noticed she didn’t stay for the whole show. I’m sure she has more important things to do but pretty much that whole section was empty after that! Honestly, she could have waved from the stage and those seats could have gone to fans!!!! Anyway…
Let’s get on with the Kcon France concert!
Throughout the show, there were subtitles in French which I tried to follow with my basic GSCE French skills but there were absolutely no subtitles for some sections.
Block B did their set first! I don’t really know them but they had a great energy.
IOI was next. Again, I don’t know anything about them. They’re the first cute girly concept group that I’ve seen live. They have amazing hair and are cute in person. I enjoyed the two songs they performed.
Jin Goo and another actress came out to host. He looks more handsome in real life. I couldn’t recognise him! They introduced a segment where some artists did collaborations and songs related to France.
And then Taemin happened…
I know this sounds completely cheesy but he looked so unearthly. I didn’t know who he was until I zoomed with my camera! He sang a beautiful rendition of ‘Reality’. I didn’t know the significance of the song until after but this was one of the highlights of the night for me. I couldn’t stop filming because I wanted to have this and rewatch!
BTS were seriously on fire (pun intended). Although I haven’t been familiar with them for that long, their songs became addictive quickly. I was really looking forward to their bad ass choreography and they did not disappoint. They had so much energy and I couldn’t help but get swept up in the excitement as they danced!
Love is Four Walls
F(X) was up next. I was sad to hear Victoria wasn’t going to attend KCON France but honestly, they were just as awesome as a trio! I’m so glad I got to see ‘Four Walls’ live. It’s my favourite f(x) song.
I like the outfits, kinda like chic waiters! They all looked seriously happy.
Amber and Krystal chatted in English whilst Luna went to get ready for her solo.
Amber then performed Shake that Brass. Her stage presence is NO JOKE! Yes, she’s on her own but damn, she got everyone at the Kcon France concert partying.
Luna came out afterwards and performed ‘Free Somebody.’
Then their set came to a close with ‘Hot Summer’. Damn, girls…I need to see an entire F(x) concert please.
I caught a cute moment between Amber and Krystal! Whilst dancing Krystal turned, smiling at Amber. Amber didn’t notice and then when she did, Krystal smiled even more! I think they were so happy at the reception they were getting.
Luna also couldn’t stop smiling! Adorable.
FT Island is WOW
Up next was FT Island. I’ve tried listening to them before but I got really overwhelmed with the amount of music they had. So I abandoned them! I feel really stupid and regretful that I couldn’t sing along because they are seriously AMAZING live. I know I’ve said that about everyone but FT Island was the biggest surprise for me. Hongki has bags of charisma. He was so utterly charming. I can’t believe I’ve missed out on this. I’m going to go back and educate myself on FT island and pray that one day they will reach London and perform here.
Last but definitely not least, the highlight of the Kcon France concert, Shinee came out to perform. They’re the ones I was looking forward to the most.
I got some serious chills at their intro when I heard that whisper ‘Shinee’s Back and then they started dancing.
Why is everyone so flipping perfect?
Although Jonghyun was missing, it did not spoil the performance at all. Amazing. I will now have to wait for the day when I can see them live for a full concert. That’s one of my biggest concert wishes.
And that was pretty much the end of the show! Confetti exploded and everyone came out again and waved to everyone.
At the closing, Minho started dancing to Four Walls with Taemin.
Amber gave him a WTF are you doing look? Minho then face palmed.
And then Hongki grabbed handfuls of confetti and started blowing it!
Kcon France Concert Side notes
- Hongki’s hair is a puffball of amazingness.
- I also found the blonde guitarist from FT Island uber cute. No idea who he is! ;p A nice new discovery.
- Taemin is a revelation! I knew he had solos but I never tuned into them. That boy has swag!
- There was a section where Leeteuk got everyone to dance various songs. We have Gee, Gangham style and also Sorry Sorry! I think he was pleased everyone was singing along to that.
Kcon France Concert final thoughts
A lot of people were wondering why KCON is in Paris? The fact is that for 2016, France and Korea are celebrating their friendship!
I’m not French but being a part of the crowd, I was really happy that France could experience this! I’m sure it means a lot to them. It was especially lovely that the Korean artists prepared chats in French and performed songs that were special to France. I love it when two completely different cultures are able to unite through music. It’s so heartwarming and that’s one of the reasons why I like kpop! So if there’s another Kcon France Concert next year, you can count me in! Let’s dominate the world with cheesy pop songs and bad ass dancing. Who’s with me?
