SM COEX Artium
For those seeking fangirl related things to do in Seoul, my first suggestion is to visit the SM Coex Artium. Aside from it being related to all things SM Entertainment, I didn’t really know what to expect but decided to embrace uncertainty and just turn up. For the uninitiated I would say it’s kind of like a museum/mall/entertainment hub.
How to get to SM COEX Artium
You can reach it from two train stations either Bogeunsa or Samseong which ever exit you take, I suggest not going inside the COEX SHOPPING MALL.
I went from Bogeunsa and decided to take the passageway from the station into the mall. However I ended up wandering around inside the mall for ages trying to find it inside and newsflash…it’s not there. It’s a completely separate building.
I suppose it would have helped if I had read the map! So the easiest way to get to the SM COEX artium is to walk in front of the building as per the map below.
You’ll see various buildings and even two huge Gangnam style hands. EEEEEEY sexy lady!
There’s another building which is where expos take place. It’s not there. You need to walk past the Trade Tower!
Then you will see this building.
It should be pretty obvious after that.
There’s a lot of cute standees outside that you can take photos with.
The first floor is a shop full of SM goodies and signed memorabilia! It’s so well done.
There’s also a section of products which was full of recommendations from idols! I decided to buy some serum recommended by Seohyun. It feels really nice. I have never heard of the brand so will let you know how it goes. I hope I don’t love it because I can imagine this being hard to buy again!
I’m kind of surprised no one stole this album! Yay for good fangirls and boys.
I was also on the hunt for something stupid and fangirly as a momento. I ended up with a cute little mamacita Donghae pin! By the way, he is way too popular. It was hard finding things related to him because I think everyone bought his stuff.
Tip – If you are interested in shopping tax-free, it is better if you don’t shop in dribs and drabs. You can get a tax refund receipt if you spend over 30 000 won. So if you know you want a lot of SM goodies, spend it in one go and you can get the tax back at the airport.
So once you’ve exhausted your funds, you can walk up the next floor and you’ll be presented with huge cabinets full of trophies!
The next floor is SM studio. It looks like a lot of fun. You can take dance classes and get a makeover but I didn’t have time to do that and it’s more fun with a bunch of friends!
You can get an idea of the prices and activities here.
I found this adorable youtube video which I think basically shows what you can do at the studio!
The next floor….
The next level, you’ll find the SUM cafe and market.
Upon entry, you can find SM related food products.
I really wanted to buy these water bottles because they were so pretty. However, it would have been too heavy to carry. There is another SUM shop in Myeongdong so I ended up buying them from there (plus Shinee and EXO bottles) as it was much closer to my hotel.
The SUM cafe space is a great place to chill and rest your feet.
At the counter, you can buy more fandom related food and drinks! They have pretty cupcakes and cookies.
There are a lot of tables and chairs that have been signed by idols. I found myself sitting on the red velvet table. The girl opposite me was sitting on Xiumin’s chair! So make sure you take a look at everything. I’m sure I missed a lot of autographs!
I got myself a Super Junior slushie which comes in their blue fandom colour. It was kinda pricey but found out that it comes with a really cool bottle which you can take away!
Siwon’s scribbles seem to be everywhere!
Up on the next floor is a theatre which shows concerts and also special shows. I think there’s a Wizard of Oz type of musical with some of the idols.
There is also a hand gallery! I know, it sounds weird. It’s basically hand cast prints of all the SM entertainers. It’s quite fun to see how your own hand compares. I found my hands are exactly the same size as Luna’s!
Then there’s this hand compatibility machine so you can see how compatible you are with your bias. They also show you your closest matches. So apparently I’m compatible with D.O. I’m not sure how they worked it out! Maybe we have the same hand size (I’m assuming since Luna has appeared!!)
And in conclusion
You will LOVE this if you’re a fan of SM entertainment, there’s so much to see and buy. YG take note!
SM COEX Artium opens all year round from 11.00am to 22.00pm.
Address: 513, Yeongdongdae-ro, Gangnam-gu, Seoul. Visit the official site here
And that ends my first Seoul post. Honestly, there’s so much to write about so basically I’m going to take it a post at a time and stop when I’ve exhausted everything!
