So it turns out I haven’t blogged in a while which means there’s been a lot of TV that I haven’t even mentioned. So here’s what’s been on my watch list.
The Handmaid’s Tale
The Handmaid’s Tale….which if I’m honest…I had to hunt links for because we don’t get Hulu in the UK. Ahem! I’ve been loving dystopian dark stories lately and Handmaiden’s tale seems like a strange reality that I could see happening.
What if men ruled the world? What if women were banned from working or keeping any money. What if their sole purpose was to bear children?
There’s a lot to love about this story and the acting is impeccable. I’m enjoying the change from Kdramas, where I do think they over explain things. For example with internal monologues, why are they always being spoken aloud?! It’s such a lazy plot device, but anyway I’m digressing… I’m enjoying a little turn in the angstier story lines of the handmaid’s tale. Each episode gives you food for thought.
I’m definitely going to rewatch this when it starts on May 28th Channel 4 in the UK!
When I was younger I used to be obsessed with reading anything about the strange – ghosts, ufos, loch ness monsters…you name it, I was on to it. Though I had to give up because I kept scaring myself.
But my interest has been reignited thanks to a brilliant series called BuzzFeed Unsolved. It’s hosted by two guys, one called Ryan and the other Shane. Ryan is a believer in all things spooky, always on edge and super enthusiastic about every case he brings out. Shane is the sarcastic sceptic. Together they venture into haunted houses, hunt for the strange and investigate the unsolved.
What makes the show for me is the dynamics and banter between the two hosts, with Ryan being the one who freaks out at the hint of a whisper and Shane who keeps everything in check with his deadpan sassy scepticism.
I started watching this documentary on Netflix which starts of about the murder of a nun in 1969. Decades later, two of her old students launch an investigation to try and solve it. As the documentary progresses, it becomes clear that her death was only just the start of a huge cover up…
It’s a harrowing story made with such sensitivity. It’s a must watch!
