My default mode seems to be with a phone in my hand and my heading looking down. My eyes skimming through tweet after tweet after tweet! I’ve got a million notifications that I don’t actually care for and piles of emails that I automatically delete. I’m always ONLINE and attached to my phone.
Sometimes I feel like my phone is just another item which is adding unecessary noise to my life!
I’ve always wanted to do a digital detox. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not going to run off and live a hippy internet free life. No way! All I want to do is take some little steps into alleviating my reliance on technology.
My first step in my digital detox….
Is not using my phone as a clock/alarm!
There’s way too much temptation to flip through your phone while you’re lying in bed. I’ve read that the light of your phone can affect your sleeping if it’s too bright!
So I’ve gone back to basics and replaced it with your average joe battery powered clock. Nothing fancy, all it does is it tell you the time. Then I put my phone as far away from my bed as possible.
I have to say it actually feels nice to not have a lot of wires near my bed. So the first thing I do in the morning? If it’s early, rather than reach for my phone (because I’m too lazy to get out of my bed), I’ll stretched a little and start reading a book. Even just 15 minutes of reading something, it makes me feel so relaxed!
