My Singapore Travel tips
If you’re thinking of visiting Singapore then I have a few travel tips for you!
* If you are taking a cab straight to your hotel. There is like an extra airport surcharge (I don’t think it’s much) so don’t be surprised if the price doesn’t quite match the meter! It’s totally normal. There’s usually a sticker inside the window of the cab and it tells you the charges you are expected to pay.
* MRT (tube system) is a great way to travel around. You can pretty much get to anywhere you want in Singapore in about 20 minutes! The train tickets are made of plastic so after your journey you can return the plastic card bit and get some money back!
* RAIN (and this goes for Malaysia as well). When it rains, it really pours! I’m not really sure you can prepare for it but the rain is CRAZY. It dries up fast though so that’s something I guess. I would advise against wearing flip flops when it rains because when you walk, the water is just going to splash the back of your legs. It’s not pretty. In addition, it will be difficult to hail a taxi at this time because everyone will be calling cab companies trying to keep dry!
*In general shops open from about 11am onwards. If you’re an early bird, then Takashimaya opens from 10.00/10.30am. Takashimaya is a Japanese department store which sells all kinds of knick knacks! I like going down to the basement and trying all kinds of food.
*If you like art, then you should know that museums and art galleries are free to enter on Fridays from 6pm-9pm!
*I really like Singapore at night. They have a really beautiful skyline so head for somewhere high at night! My favourite building to look at is the Marina Bay Sands. If you’re lucky and walking around you may stumble on a free light show! I also recommend Gardens by the Bay at night.
