So finally I can put fingers to keyboard and write this review of GD’s concert in KL!
So this day had been planned for ages and suddenly it was finally here!
Even though I had standing tickets for this Malaysia date, I decided against waiting in the queue for the whole day. As much as I would love to receive some fanservice! I can’t endure the blazing Malaysian sun. I also wanted to try and not drink too much so that I wouldn’t suddenly need the loo mid queue! (god, I’ve been there and done that! never leave the line for the toilet because that line will move without you!)
I thought I could just about stomach a three hour wait, so I took the train up to the Stadium and aimed for 5pm. When I finally got there I was greeted with a monster of a venue!
Surrounding the stadium, the area was full of GD stalls! I couldn’t tell what was official and what was fake! So I didn’t get anything! I rushed to pick up my ticket and join the queue. The lady at booth told me to go to the queue by the bridge so I went there! To cut a really long story short, I stood In the wrong queue for one hour!!
HEAD MEETS DESK.
FACE TO PALM.
Anyway I walked away feeling a bit sad (and pretty stupid) that I’d wasted so much time.I stood in my correct queue, right at the end with a few stragglers. Looking around, there was actually a lot less people in the queue and it was moving a hell of a lot faster than the one I had previously been standing in.
After I got my bag checked, I was walking fast! I didn’t really have time to really take in the stadium.
The standing area was not packed like I thought it was gonna be.
And hurray! The spot I wanted was free!
My hands were finally touching the barrier!
Immediately I got talking to a friendly fellow fan (Hi Ayu!). GD’s videos were playing on two screens above us. There was a lot of random screaming but we figured we needed to save our energy!
Looking at the stadium, I couldn’t see the other end of the pitch.
I could only see maybe the first row of seats. I couldn’t fathom the scale of the ground.
Then half an hour before show time, the mc came out to start pumping the crowd!
We quickly realise that we are standing in front of a gap which shields the backstage. I spotted Hwangssabu-nim, Bigbang’s fitness trainer! (if you watch 2ne1tv he’s the man who scolds Bom a lot for eating corn). We waved to him and in true Hwangsabbu style, he smiles and gives the thumbs up!
After a while the white curtains covering the front stage started to billow and puff and we spotted a smoke trail drifting out from the sides. You could also see hands pushing the curtain to the front. People started screaming at this every now and again!
Then from behind the curtain we heard a voice say……..
As you can imagine the crowd went crazy!
But it soon died down and there was, yes you guessed it….even more waiting!
For what seemed like the longest 15 mins ever the show finally started!
The screen showed a video of gd driving a cool, sports car through a city………..
Lightsticks on……everyone starts to get their cray on!
The shows opens with him emerging from an ice like car! He sings Michigo and does some very hardcore dancing!
Having the opportunity to see him stand on his own stage, I really got the sense of his charisma.
He performs one after the other…
“One of a Kind”
I really have tried to avoid using the word swag. It’s a terribly boring word and should be banned from the dictionary but GD really does have it in spades!
Then up next GD works it with holograms of CL and Tablo! He performs “Light It Up (with Tablo) and The Leaders” (with CL).
The pace slows down so GD can finally get his breath back! It is a really pretty but effective set for his next song, butterflies start flying out over the central aisle. He sings….. “Butterfly”….well duh!
The next song is “Missing You” He changes into a glittery cardigan and sits on the centre stage. It’s really simple but sweet performance!
Then it goes dark and there’s a throne! VERY GAMES OF THRONE, he’s sitting on it, lording it up with a guy on guitar waiting for him! He wears a giant floppy fedora. It is very Micheal Jacksonesque! Think Billie Jean. I do approve.
By now GD is seriously dripping with sweat singing “That XX”
This is one of my favourite performances! I thought the acoustic guitar work was really nice as well. The twisty sounds of the guitar strings and the tapping was so nice and warm. Even though its a song about jealousy, it was so pretty to listen to.
Though I do feel sorry for the fans who were sitting on the other side of his hat! It was so big. I think that’s all they would have seen.
So please watch my fancam below! It’s a little bit of THAT XX.
I was always totally caught off guard with the pyrotechnics! There was so close and loud. I got a heart attack every time they came.
Then GD went to the centre stage and was on this raised stage where he could dj! He performed “Today” and after that….”A Boy”
Then GD introduced Taeyang! Taeyang was so hyper and bouncy. I don’t know why but he seemed so excited about it. Taeyang was wearing all white and sunglasses! I don’t know why because it was night and pitch black.
Taeyang sang ‘Where you at’ and ‘Break it down’. I actually really like ‘Break it down’ but the crowd did not seem to know it too well. They just kept repeating what he was saying rather than the actual song! Then he bounced off.
GD came back on to perform….”This Love” and “1 Year Station.
Another stand out song was OBSESSION….Obsession was…….wow! Very intense.
He started the song standing in front of us, bathed in a blue light.
During this song it is him climbing a like a metal frame fortress…just walking up and staring into the camera. It then segues into ‘she’s gone’ but I don’t even notice because I’m just into the story of the song!
And finally he ‘closed’ the concert with “Crayon” and “Fantastic Baby”.
By now GD was visibly tired! But completely understandable, the amount of sweating and running he did in this concert, coupled with the heat (probably not used to performing in these conditions…hats off to GD seriously!) Even though he was tired, he seemed very happy!
Of course it’s not the end, a little michigo video plays and it’s GD asking us why we haven’t left yet and he asks do we want more?
OH HELL YEAH!!!!
And so it’s the encore! He comes out in a little beanie and a Segway.
He probably thinks the Segway is the best thing since sliced bread! Clearly he is pooped!. He zooms around! I can’t remember the songs he performed now possibly Breathe and Badboy? Well one of the songs was definitely Badboy because Taeyang came bouncing out again!
Gd may have sang Michigo again! My mind is foggy! He introduces the dancers, the band, he thanks them, he thanks us….GD moves around with his Segway, asking us to scream louder for him, more and more…..and more….totally loving it!
He goes to the right of the stage
And then to the left of the stage.
He blows a final flying kiss….
And then he was gone…….
